Well obviosly double layer is more expensive. Why is this so?

The difference is in the name ... a single layer of a CD or DVD has embedded a single layer recordable discs in the plastic disc, while dual-layer disc has two layers of recordable discs embedded in the plastic disc.
The advantage of a dual-layer CD or DVD, which may double the memory remains of a single layer of CD or DVD. For example, a DVD can store 4.38 GB of data (about 2 hours of recording time), while a dual-layer DVD can store 7.95 GB of data) (approximately 4 hours of recording time. Therefore, a double layer of CDs and DVDs more expensive than the equivalent single-layer ... the more difficult to produce and each layer double-CD and DVD has twice the data in a single-layer disc if you actually receive the equivalent of two CDs in one.
However, you should write a dual layer-capable CD / DVD read-and dual-layer discs. If your recorder does not explicitly state that the double-layer media, then I would not assume you can use dual-layer discs. Ande to investigate the characteristics of the system and its unity. If you do not have a compatible dual-layer burner, then you are limited to the use of media in a single recording layer.

Preety I'm sure .... the concept of multiple audio channels into the game Dolby 7.1 surround-sound systems and other things that make good use of. Not sure if theres more than that, I'm sure it though.
Also note: It is not twice as a CD layer.
DVDs can come as a double-CD sets, but always in a single layer.
